It does not have to be new! Check out how many mm it has! 36mm-108mm works well.

. There are tons of them to mess with.

For starters, take pictures of flowers, with the right knowledge, they are easy to capture and they look beautiful.
To work on this, go to flower mode (macro) and work on it. You may like this!
Develop your photography skills

There is no one “right way” to become a better photographer. Some people take a class or get a college art degree with a photography focus. Others believe that college is a waste of time for becoming a photographer. You may find that you can teach yourself about photography from books and experimentation, or you may want to learn from other professionals.

Know your camera

Before you book your first paid photo session, you should know every setting, error message, and quirk of your camera. You should be able to change lenses with your eyes closed. Fumbling with equipment will make you seem unprofessional and could affect the quality of your final product.
  • Read your camera’s manual front to back. The manual will give you a lot of detail about the features and function of your camera in a way that generic photography sources do not.
  • To become really proficient, practice extensively at home. Experiment with light and shadow, try different settings on your camera, and learn the ins and outs of taking
  • pictures with your available equipment.
  •  Keep a Notebook . . . or don’t

  • Especially in the beginning, I recommend creating a well organized notebook. You
  • can treat this like a travel log of your experience, a place where you keep notes, set goals, paste trimmings of shots you’ve found that inspire you etc.  You’d be surprised just how many photographers do this.
  • It is important to acknowledge that for some, it’s just not their thang and I totally get that.  For some people it adds stress and pressure to something that is supposed to be fun.  If you fall into that category, ditch step one and keep moving on to the other tips in the post.

 Shoot in Different Conditions

  • Not only should you be shooting regularly, you should be out shooting in different conditions as often as possible to familiarize yourself with them.  A lot of times as photographers we’re searching for good, easy, flat light that isn’t going to throw us any curve balls (ie open shade or an overcast day).  The reality of photography however is that you don’t always have so much control, so you need to be ready for any and everything at any given time.
  • For example: maybe one week you practice shooting subjects that are backlit and the next you go out and shoot in low light.  Just get out and shoot and shoot and shoot and then come home and record what you learn each day in the corresponding section of your notebook.
